Statement

STWDSTS must strive to improve the efficiency of bus routes

In order to minimize the number of school bus routes STWDSTS
must set service parameter policies to provide safe,
equitable and efficient bus routes.

Procedure

The following serice parameters are used by STWDSTS:

  1. Delivery and Pickup Times - Where practical
    Buses arriving and departing schools will not exceed the following

    • 15 minutes before or after school

    Conseil scolaire Viamonde “CSV”

    • 15 minutes before or after school

    Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board “DPCDSB”

    • 15 minutes before or after school

    Upper Grand District School Board “UGDSB”

    • 15 minutes before or after school

    Wellington Catholic District School Board “WCDSB”

    • 15 minutes before or after school


  3. Transfers - Where practical
    • No student will ride on more than two buses while travelling either
      or to or from school.
    • No student will be discharged from a bus at a transfer
      point until the transfer bus has arrived.

  4. Combination of Routes
    • Secondary and elementary school students from all
      Boards may be transported on the same bus at the
      same time.

Procedure continued
  1. Special Students

    • A student who is identified as exceptional according to
      (020) Special Education and Medical Transportation will
      receive special attention as required from the driver,
      school principal and STWDSTS.

  2. Standees
    • Standees are not permitted on a school bus.


  3. Maximum Number of Students Transported on a Bus
    • The number of students transported on a school bus will
      not exceed the manufacturer's capacity for that vehicle.
      Where practical, bus seats will be loaded as follows:
      JK to Gr 6 - 3 per seat
      Gr 7 to Gr 12 - 2 per seat

  4. Central Pick-up Points
    • Where houses are grouped together, students will be
      required to meet at a central pick up point.

  5. Students in Urban Areas
    • Students not eligible for transportation to the school
      serving their home attendance area, but eligible for
      transportation to the school at which they are enrolled,
      will use their home school as their school bus pick-up
      and unloading point. An alternate location may be
      designated by STWDSTS if deemed necessary.

  6. Travelled Roads
    • Buses will serve only "all-weather roads" with suitable
      turning locations (as specified by local road
      superintendents).
    • Buses will only serve assumed roads. Confirmation is
      required from the local jurisdiction overseeing road.

  7. Non Scheduled Transportation Trips
    • STWDSTS only provides home to school/school to home
      regularly scheduled trips. STWDSTS does not provide
      additional trips for students that must leave school early
      (e.g. medical appointments, sickness, etc.)
